With the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 set to commence on October 5, captains of all participating teams gathered in Ahmedabad for a captain’s meet to discuss team combinations and preparations for the upcoming tournament. The event, hosted by Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan, provided insights into the minds of the leaders of the cricketing world.

A star-studded captain’s meet

The captain’s meet saw the presence of prominent cricketing figures, including Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Australian captain Pat Cummins, Pakistan leader Babar Azam, England skipper Jos Buttler, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi, Netherlands’ Scott Edwards, and Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka. The gathering showcased the diversity and competitive spirit of the tournament.

A hilarious moment with Rohit Sharma

The event took an unexpected turn when a journalist posed a question to Rohit regarding the 2019 World Cup final between England and New Zealand. In a thrilling contest, England secured victory based on the boundary count after the match and the Super Over ended in a tie. However, Rohit’s response to the question added a touch of humor to the occasion.

In his typical humorous style, Rohit replied, “Kya yaar! It’s not my job to decide that.” His witty retort left fellow captains and journalists in stitches, showcasing his ability to handle even the trickiest of questions with a smile.

During the captain’s meet, Rohit was also questioned about India’s missed opportunity to prepare for the tournament after the cancellation of two warm-up games due to adverse weather conditions. In response, Rohit emphasized that the Indian team had already played a substantial amount of cricket in recent times.

“Not really. We were happy to get those days off. Looking at the heat and other factors, we have been playing a lot of cricket lately. We played 4 games in the Asia Cup and 3 against Australia. We know where we are at. I would’ve loved to play those two games, but there’s not much you can do when the weather is like that, varying from one part of India to another. Overall, I’m happy with how we are entering the tournament, and the guys are looking in good shape,” Rohit explained.
