A Super Over is a tie-breaking method used in limited-overs cricket matches. It was first introduced in international cricket during the 2008 ICC World Twenty20 tournament.
The Super Over is a one-over per side eliminator where each team faces six balls from a designated bowler. The team that scores the most runs in the Super Over wins the match. If the Super Over is also tied, then the team that has scored more boundaries in the entire match (both innings) is declared the winner.
The Super Over has been used in various high-profile matches, including the 2019 Cricket World Cup Final between England and New Zealand, where the Super Over was also tied but England was declared the winner based on the boundary count rule. It is considered an exciting and dramatic way to determine the winner of a closely contested match.
